Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, David took a roundabout path to arrive in the world of whiskey. A graduate of Virginia Tech and Columbia University’s School of Engineering, he had stints working for the DoD and the world of bond trading in New York City. Seeking a change of pace from New York as his children were reaching kindergarten age, he discovered a small batch distiller in the Catskill Mountain range. Offering his services pro bono he learned the functional reality of operating a distillery and took his experience back to his native Virginia. A partnership with his childhood friend James Carpenter took the business from a work in progress to reality. Together they produce award winning small batch Bourbon, Wheat and Rye Whiskies that are distributed through the Vintner Group of Ashland, Va.

In the last century, almost one hundred of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries have been closed or destroyed. This accounts for nearly half of all distilleries that have ever existed in Scotland. Global economic downturn, over-production, world wars and prohibition have all contributed to the loss of so many distilleries. As a result of all of these factors, many unique and venerable brands have been lost to the world. Until Now.
After growing up in CO, I moved to the nation’s capital in 2007 to get into the wine industry. After a brief stint in a wine shop and a couple years as a local wine rep, I worked with David Perkins for a couple days. Shortly afterwards, he offered me a gig working the Eastern US for High West. Now I spend my days cruising around and spreading the good word. When I’m home, I spend a bunch of time hanging out with my wife and our sleepy pitbull.

In the same year, he created The Whisky Extravaganza®, the first series of national tasting events that focused exclusively on single malt and Scotch whiskies. The Extravaganza is a gala event featuring over 100 of the world’s finest single malt and Scotch whiskies. Doug discovered single malt Scotch soon after arriving at a double-digit age. A suburban ne-er-do-well, he discovered, hidden behind bottles of cheap clear liquor, his father’s secret cache of the “Wee Dram.” His fathers liquor selection (Popov Vodka, ShopRite Rum, and 4-5 bottles of outstanding single malt whiskies) left him little option.
In 1967, at the tender age of 6, Doug discovered the power of Social Networks when he became a charter member of what was arguably the worlds first: The Bazooka Joe Circle of Friends. However the cost of the annual membership (100 bubble gum wrappers) proved unsustainable given his dentist-fathers abhorrence for gum chewing, so he was left no choice but to resign his regional coordinator position at the age of 8.
For the next 38 years Doug drifted directionless in search of community affiliation. The idea for a community for Scotch Lovers stirred in him during his search for a bottle of Loch Dhu, a favorite of his and his esteemed progenitor. His search revealed that the brand had gone extinct, and it was then that he essayed to harness his near-two-decades of interactive online technology, content-creation, e-commerce and marketing experience to the noble cause of rescuing endangered scotches… primarily for his own use, once the clock nudges past 6 (PM, usually).
Doug’s Internet involvement began in 1993. Prior to starting ForWhiskeyLovers, Doug served as Group Director of Interactive Media at Siegel+Gale; as CEO of online marketing firm Abstract Edge; and Vice President of Interactive Marketing for Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the world’s largest hotel company.

We are truly farm to glass. We are proud of our award winning craft whiskey currently distributed throughout Florida, Missouri and Nashville area.
